Despite Lost Caverns of Ixalan not being focused on creature types like the original Ixalan was, the set is still full of the plane’s signature creature type: Dinosaur. Now is a good time to be a fan of dinosaurs in Magic, between LCI, its Commander offerings and the Jurassic Park cards – all in addition to a pretty strong back catalogue from the last few years. Let’s have a look at the best of the best from Dinosaurs both old and new!
This has got to be one of the funniest and best-executed top-down designs I have ever seen on a Magic card. Firstly, it’s a pretty good card from a gameplay standpoint: Zealous Conscripts is already great, and putting it in the air obviously only makes it better. Being able to steal, attack with and then kill an opposing creature (assuming it’s small enough) takes this card to the next level – and then there’s the flavor behind Swooping Pteranodon. Having a land deal three as it “drops” the creature is the funniest thing to appear on a card since the flavor text on an Urza’s Legacy Lava Axe.
